Remembering Your Special Moments -
Choosing the Right Photographer
By
Budda Oliver
There are many special milestones in your life, including high
school & college graduations, weddings, and the birth of a child
among many others. It is important to find the right photographer to
document these unique and extraordinary moments through professional
photography and portraits that you will always cherish.
The first thing you should think about when choosing a photographer
is how you want the final photographs to look. A professional will
be willing to discuss the various choices between a glamorous studio
shoot to an outdoor session. Weigh your options and think about
where you'd be most comfortable. Perhaps you'd like formal, studio
lit portraits or maybe you would be more comfortable with candid
shots taken in a nearby park or another outdoor setting. Look
through the portfolio of each photographer you're considering to be
sure they are able to accommodate your specific needs.
For wedding photography, look for a professional who is willing to
come to the site a day before the big event. A good photographer
will plan out his technical requirements in advance, as well as look
for ideal places for great photo opportunities. It also gives you a
chance to get to know your cameraperson better, and the cameraperson
a chance to get to know the wedding party. Timing is everything when
it comes to running a wedding ceremony and reception, so having the
photographer at the site when you are discussing those issues will
be of great benefit to both you and the photographer.
Discuss various locations for outdoor portraits. A seasoned
professional will have some dramatic settings in mind that have made
for stunning pictures in the past. Remember to discuss clothing
options, as well. To guarantee the best possible portraits, you may
want to avoid wearing clothing with patterns, logos or bright
colors. Dark clothing works well for portraits. Again, speak with
your cameraperson in advance to come up with an outfit that will
allow your photos be the best possible.
For photographs involving children or newborns, you'll want to
choose a photographer who can provide you a package deal that
includes wallet sizes, 5x7's and 8X10's. Remember the extended
family members who will want a keepsake to put on the mantle or
carry with them. Sessions involving children can be overwhelming,
but choosing a photographer who has a kind and gentle demeanor can
make the session fun and relatively easy.
Another thing to consider when choosing a photography session is how
you'd like your final images delivered. Many of today's studios
offer packages that include digital copies either on CD or DVD. When
deciding on additional prints, you can reference your digital copies
from the comfort of your home.
The right photographer for you will make the photography experience
enjoyable and fun, while documenting the emotion and fun of your
special occasion.
